SNAG Professional Guidelines

These guidelines offer practical advice, checklists, and real life guidance on recurring issues within the art and craft community in all media. Developed by and esteemed committee representing all aspects of the craft field and chaired by Harriete Estel Berman, the Guidelines promote understanding and practical standards (the committee members are listed on the web site)."

Juried Exhibitions. For an exhibition sponsor to develop a well run juried exhibition. Artists should compare the Juried Exhibitions guidelines to the show prospectus you receive.

Artist Checklist: Exhibitions. Questions that artists should consider asking exhibitions sponsors. It also includes the Artist Check List: An Artist's Responsibilities. Print the Artist Checklist from the SNAG web site so it's handy on a moment's notice.

Model Consignment Contract. A complete explanation for each clause in the consignment contract with possible options for both the artist and the gallery. Use this contract in whole or in part to cover the many issues involved in developing a good working relationship. Recommended reading: Artist-Gallery Partnership by Crawford & Mellon.

Artist Checklist: Claims for Damaged Work. For work damaged during shipping or an exhibition, step-by-step instructions about how to make a successful claim with the insurance company.

Discounts. An analysis of discounts from both the artist's and gallery's perspectives. Includes careful recommendations and concrete suggestions for alternatives to giving discounts. Recommended reading: The Crafters Guide to Pricing Your Work by Dan Ramsey.

Useful Resources for Legal and Professional Advice. A list of the best resources currently available for artists and craftspeople. The list includes brief reviews, information about the publisher's or author's web site, and a description of the audience that would benefit the most from reading the book.
